Imperfect Boy, Perfect God
He knows you are but a man full of flaws, and this does not take one ounce away from his immeasurable love for us.
A fun way to read this piece would be with a song. Borrowing this from Blossom Robinson
So many times I have uttered the words “I am the most imperfect person I know” in an effort to clarify that I hold no other person's flaw(s) above mine, nor do I consider them or their flaws to be a judge of them.
This, my friends, has not been completely true. At many instances, I have caught myself doing the 'I see, and I judge' thing like mad.
That “I could never have done that”, “I would never”, “Why would someone that have sense, act like this” and the forever classic; “It can never be me”.
Yh, it pains me to say this, that at those very points, Grace and compassion left the group chat because I had chosen to amplify intellect and emotions that were not subjected to the will of God or his specific design in reacting or responding to others or situations and I didn’t see it as a flaw.
But this is the other part- the truth - because of these realisations, I still know I am the most imperfect person I know, but now not in comparison to others’ imperfections, but in the knowing that there is a God in whom there is no fault, a righteous judge in whom alone all things are right.
A Perfect Father
Why this is loathsome to me is that I know that there is a God who sees the same thing daily: my imperfections, your imperfections and says come to me as you are with an outstretched arm and a very warm embrace — every single day, hour, minute and second.
It is amazing how easily our heavenly Father could wipe us off way faster than Thanos because of our shortcomings. If you no believe, ask Sodom.
But interestingly, He knows you are but a man full of flaws, and this does not take one ounce away from his immeasurable love for us.
Such a love that overcomes any wrath but offering grace and compassion to put you onto a path of righteousness, gifted unto you the Holyspirit to dwell within you and work on you.
Jealous of your well-being? oh c’mon, I hope you know He cares for you more than even your parents can.
If God reacted to us as a typical African parent …
Something I find interesting to know is that even cognitive psychology demands that when dealing with people's faults and emotions, one must move beyond reacting to observable behaviour and instead focus on the internal cognitive processes - the thoughts, beliefs, and interpretations that drive them.
Glad to let you know, your Maker and Father knows your heart and thoughts.
David go lie for you?
Can you be Perfect?
I wish this answer were pretty straightforward, but I'll give you a response to my current understanding.
In Hebrews 10, the Bible talks about some sort of perfection, let’s call it some type of legal declaration that states in God’s court, the believer is viewed as perfect, not because of their own behaviour, but because Christ’s perfect righteousness has been credited to them for all time and because Christ's sacrifice was "once-for-all," no further actions are needed to maintain this standing.
But the dilemma for a lot of people is in understanding if those “perfected” in standing still struggle with temptation and sin. Which is a valid inquiry.
However, the phrase “those who are being sanctified” in Hebrews 10:14 describes a lifelong process of progressive sanctification. As his children, we are gradually becoming in our experience what we already are in God’s sight.
And so in Galatians 5:17, Apostle Paul states While the sinful nature wants to do evil, it is the opposite of what the Spirit wants. So the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires.
He adds that because these two forces are constantly fighting each other, you are not free to carry out actions out of your good intentions alone, but when you are directed by the Spirit.
With this assurance, you know it is His will that all men created in his image come to the knowledge of him and develop a character like Christ's, reflecting divine qualities like love, patience, and faithfulness, not by becoming God but by being transformed by the Spirit into His likeness.
Now, before reacting, I can remember to whom grace has been given freely, grace is required to be given unto others.
